Kinross residents gathered at the Marika sewer project site to stop ten (10) general workers who were allegedly hired by Cllr. Nkabinde.

“When we asked the ten general workers who hired them, they told us that they were hired by Cllr. Rose Nkabinde. We then stopped them from working since we wanted to understand what was happening. Now we see they are still coming to work, said Khumbulani Sithole, who is a resident in Marikana.

The community members alleged that the hiring process was not fair, as the councillor should have called a meeting for the hiring process, and identity documents are shuffled in public, making the hiring process fair.

The residents accuse the councillor of bringing her own people to work at the site.

Furthermore, it is alleged the project has no community liaison officer (CLO) and a steering committee, yet there are ten (10) general workers who started working two weeks ago without the knowledge of the community.

“We want the ten general workers to stop working until proper procedure is followed; they will come back during the selection process as we are not disputing for them to hand in their IDs to be hired,” said Mr. Mathenjwa, who is a community member and part of the ward committee.

Councillor Nkabinde was contacted for a comment and she said she has no comment.
