The police in Kinross warn motorists of recent hijacking tactics where the suspects use blue lights to target victims.
In a recent incident, a victim was robbed of a Toyota Fortuner on the R580 road from the water towers towards the Kriel direction.
The incident took place during the day on Wednesday, 18 March 2026.
According to the police, the hijackers used a white VW Golf 7 with a registration number ending in AB. The vehicle is unmarked with blue lights.
They wore police uniforms without name tags, impersonating police officials.
They will stop you and ask for your driver’s license, whilst you are in the midst of that, then an Omoda motor vehicle pulls over, and they execute their plan.
Police urged drivers to be more vigilant and cautious.
“As we are approaching Easter weekend, more scams will be used to target drivers. Last December, we had a high number of car hijackings where suspects pretended to be out of fuel on the side of the road. Once you attempt to help them, they rob you. Therefore, we urge drivers to be cautious and not stop for any unmarked vehicles with blue lights,” said Constable Cebisile Mlambo, Kinross Police Communication Officer.
