The community of Ward 16 in Kinross led a peaceful service delivery protest on Friday, 26 April 2024 to deliver a memorandum of grievances to the Executive Mayor of Govan Mbeki Municipality, Cllr. Nhlakanipho Zuma.
The march included residents from Marikana, extension 21 and 25, respectively.
The residents formed forces and proceeded to Kinross municipal offices.
Part of the memorandum raised issues pertaining to municipal projects that are still unfinished, one of which is the RDP houses in ext. 21 and ext. 25.
The construction of the RDP houses that resumed in 2021 has since been on hold to date; and another is the sewer project in the Marikana section of Kinross.
Marikana residents demand to be allocated stands and electricity to be installed in the area, along with water supply.
The community had given the Executive Mayor seven days to respond to the memorandum but instead, he promised to respond today, 03 May 2024.
