Mpumalanga premier Ms Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane handed over disaster management vehicles to several fire-prone municipalities on Thursday, 19 October 2023.

The fully equipped double cab rapid response firefighting vehicles were handed over to five municipalities, namely: Lekwa, Nkomazi, Chief Albert Luthuli, Dipaleseng, and Thaba Chweu.

Mpumalanga is prone to veld fires, with the potential to endanger human lives as well as the natural vegetation.

The firefighting vehicles will improve the capacity of the municipalities to save lives through rapid response.

The MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Mr Mandla Msibi, and the executive mayors representing the municipalities were amongst the dignitaries scheduled to attend the handover function.
