Rising Stars and Greater Heights Youth Empowerment (GHYE) hosted a women’s football tournament on 09 August 2022 at Kwandiza sports ground in Embalenhle, Ext 4.
The aim of the tournament was to celebrate women in sports on a women’s day. Working in partnership, Rising Stars and GHYE are developing young people in many aspects.
Top Eight (8) teams from around Govan Mbeki Municipality took part in the tournament; Rising stars ladies; Emba Milan Ladies; Storm Ladies; Royal knights Ladies; Zone Mavo; Passion Ladies; Sasol Juventus Ladies; and Sasol Thistle Grove ladies.
All eight teams competed on the prize to take home a New Jersey kit and a trophy that only one team could claim victory of.
Storm ladies took to the final after winning the semi-finals 2 – 1 to Sasol Thistle Grove together with Passion ladies after winning 1 – 0 to Rising stars ladies.
After the longest day on the field, Passion Ladies battled with Storm Ladies for a win on the finals, leading to Storm Ladies claiming victory with a score of 1 – 0 to Passion ladies.
