Bethal police managed to arrest a suspect after receiving information about a man carrying a stolen property. The 31 year old who was arrested while heading towards the Bethal taxi rank, was said to have stolen a welding machine from an elderly man’s car in Bethal on Monday, 20 January 2020.
“Both Constable Khuzwayo and Warrant officer Nkonde responded swiftly to the tip-off and managed to arrest the suspect and confiscated the property.
The suspect was then taken to Bethal SAPS for detention and on arrival at the station, the owner of the property which is an old man was about to report the matter only to realize that the police are with a suspect holding the welding machine.
The complainant was overwhelmed by the response of the police toward the crime reported.
The complainant said he packed his vehicle in front of pharmacy to buy his medication and when he returns he was informed by a car guard that someone stole his welding machine,” said the Bethal Police Spokesperson Const Thomas Mogadime.
The station commander at Bethal SAPS, Lt Col Petrus Nzima applauded the members for responding swiftly and ensuring that they bring the perpetrator to book. He also thanked the community for working together with the police in the fight against crime.
The suspect will appear at Bethal Magistrates court facing charges of possession of stolen property and theft out of motor vehicle.
