A 30-year-old woman was granted bail by the Bethal Magistrate Court on Thursday, 14 August 2025, on a charge of statutory rape.

According to the information, it is alleged that the accused and the 15-year-old boy met at a family gathering ceremony when the young boy proposed love to the accused. The accused agreed to be in a relationship with the minor.

The minor would regularly skip school and visit the accused, where they would engage in sexual activity.

It is further alleged that the 15-year-old eventually dropped out of school as he regularly absconded.

The minor’s mother noticed the unusual behaviour of her son and looked into it, which later resulted in her opening a case against the accused.

The state did not oppose the bail.

The accused was granted bail of a fixed amount of R1000.00, and the case was postponed to the 16th of September 2025.
