Four family members have been arrested in Embalenhle, Mandela section, after an alleged intruder who attempted to rob their business was caught and killed by the community.
According to some residents, the owner of the business blew a whistle in the wee hours of Sunday, 17 August 2025, seeing the intruder trying to break in on camera footage.
Community members came out and started assaulting the said intruder and left him outside the yard, after allegedly attempting to call the police with no avail, only to wake up in the morning to find that he was deceased.
”When the police are campaigning, they urged us to blow the whistle in situations like this to help our neighbours. Now that it has happened, we woke up to help. They want to arrest us.
We demand the release of the family members from the police.
This is a known criminal in our community, so many cases have been opened before, and the police could not apprehend him, two days ago, he robbed Mr David and stabbed him on the head; he still has stitches as we speak, but now that he is deceased the police come and make arrests,” said one of the community members.
The four family members are expected to appear before the Evander Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 19 August 2025.
