ActionSA’s MMC of Social Development and Community Services in Tshwane, Cllr Peggy de Bruin today spearheaded the renewed efforts to upgrade the historical Caledonian and Refilwe Stadia in Tshwane.

The R57 million allocated budget toward the refurbishment of the two stadia will be monitored to ensure that resources are spent as intended.

Despite many attempts to revive the historical site of the Caledonian Stadium, in 2014, the administration authorised a study by the City Planning Department for the refurbishment and redevelopment of the Stadium into a Theme Park, however, due to the resistance from the community, the football stadium will be upgraded instead.

The Caledonian Stadium has been the headquarters of the Football Association of Pretoria (FAP) and the Arcadia Shepherds Football Club for more than fifty years.

Having also been the home of soccer in Pretoria Central.

Refilwe Stadium in Cullinan is incomplete, a project which started in 2014.

Due to the City’s financial challenges, the project was put on hold.

Fortunately, MMC Peggy de Bruin successfully motivated for both projects to be reconsidered.

MMC de Bruin will continue to do regular progress reports on this project to ensure its completion.
