Members of the ANC came out in numbers at the Leslie Periodical Court on Wednesday, 07 February 2024 in support of their member who was allegedly stabbed by an MK (Mkhonto Wesizwe) party agent.
It is alleged that the two party agents got into a heated argument on Sunday, 04 February 2024 during the voter registration period.
Further allegations are that the victim was having a chat with one of her friends near the MK stands when the suspect threatened her, saying he had hatred for the ANC and therefore he wanted no one from the ANC near his comrades, which is when the victim responded saying that the MK is derived from the ANC.
The suspect is then said to have allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the neck.
The victim was rushed to the clinic, where they stopped the continuously flowing blood, thereby transferring her to the hospital for further medical attention, where she got sixteen stitches from the stabbing.
According to Zwelakhe Moyo, who is the legal adviser for the LEMT of the Govan Mbeki Municipality, which is the structure of elections for the ANC, said during the registration process political parties come to monitor the process therefore each party has stands outside the voting station which must be five meters apart and also five meters from the IEC branding.
“We understand we are not at war as brothers and sisters regardless of political affiliation; therefore, we are bound to converse with each other,”Moyo Said.
Vusi Masilela made his first appearance before the Leslie Periodical Court on charges of attempted murder after he was arrested on Monday.
Masilela was remanded in custody for his legal representative and a possible bail application on Friday, 10 February 2024.
