The saying “healthy body, healthy mind” reflects the strong connection between physical and mental well-being. Engaging in regular physical activity can improve mood, reduce stress, and boost self-esteem, all of which contribute to better mental health. Conversely, mental well-being can positively influence physical health, creating a positive feedback loop.

On Wednesday, 09 July 2025, Social Crime Prevention with Men for Change and Women’s Network hosted a wellness day for police officials from neighbouring stations and Department of Correctional Services officials at Bethal Police Station.

Sergeant Thomas Mogadime, the Mpumalanga Provincial Men For Change Deputy Chairperson and also occupying the Gert Sibande District Men for Change as Chairperson, stated that the aim of Wellness Day was to provide services that will not only benefit the health and well-being of members but also contribute to a more productive and efficient workforce and keep members physically fit.

The health and wellness awareness commenced with a 4.5 km fun run/walk and proceeded with aerobics and netball.

The aerobics session was facilitated by Constable Darius Mouton and Sergeant Nompumelelo Mbokane with exceptional stunts for flexibility, balance and strength.

During the day, professional doctors came through to offer free assessments/health screenings with a team of experienced healthcare professionals providing a range of health screenings and assessments.

The services rendered were:

* Blood pressure checks

* Sugar tests

* HIV screenings

* Dental assessments

* Orthotics and podiatry services

* Physiotherapy evaluations

* Optometry services

* Phlebotomy services (blood tests, e.g., blood group tests, lung function, kidney function, allergy tests, etc.

After activities, participants were awarded medals sponsored by DC Constructions for their enthusiastic participation in the 4.5 KM fun run and walk by the station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Tsekiso Tseole.

Furthermore, two netball teams incorporated with male players were formed, and the court was filled with laughter, energy and a brilliant sporting atmosphere, and spectators were thrilled seeing men playing netball.

The winning netball team was awarded a floating trophy by the station commander.

The station commander thanked everyone for the support and positive participation during the wellness day and encouraged them to keep fit and to take care of their mental health.
