Andile Amos Mthembu reappeared before the Evander magistrates’ court today, 11 March 2026, for the confirmation of address and judgment of his bail application.

Mthembu is facing eight charges emanating from three counts of rape, two counts of assault GBH, robbery with aggravating circumstances, kidnapping, and house breaking.

According to information at the police’s disposal, Mthembu would target vulnerable women who were coming back from taverns at night around eMbalenhle.

During his bail application, the court heard that Mthembu had a previous conviction dating back to 2013 of rape, where he was out on parole. During the time of his arrest, he was out on bail on another rape charge.

He has been linked to the rape charges through DNA.

When delivering judgment, the court found that there is a clear propensity that he will commit further crimes of the same schedule, and that there is a likelihood that he will not stand his trial.

His bail was therefore denied, and he was remanded in custody until 20 April 2026 for further investigations.
