The police in Evander caution residents to refrain from buying goods on social media, specifically on Facebook.
According to Sergeant Mxhotshelwa, there have been a number of cases reported at the station where victims fell for scams advertised on social media.
“These victims pay a large sum of money for a product they saw on social media; they would later realize they have been scammed after sending the money, and the perpetrator’s phone will immediately be switched off. Most of the victims lost amounts estimated from R30,000.00 upwards,” said Sergeant Mxhotshelwa, communications spokesperson of Evander police.
