Mr Fani Khumalo, a member of the Vukanini Taxi Association (VUKTA) and a rank manager in Trichardt, was gunned down outside his home in Kinross in November 2021.
Suspects alleged to have conspired in the murder of Khumalo have since been in custody.
Their matter is expected to go on trial in 2026.
A fourth accused in the matter, Temesgen Haile (32), an Ethiopian national, has been linked to the murder of Khumalo. Haile was arrested in the Gauteng province for other crimes, thereby linked to Khumalo’s murder.
Haile made a brief appearance before the Evander magistrates court on Thursday, 15 May 2025, where his matter was remanded for his lawyer and an Amarik interpreter to be present before the court.
Haile reappeared before the Evander Magistrate’s court on Tuesday, 20 May 2025, where he abandoned his bail application. His lawyer stated Haile has been prejudiced and that his case had so many irregularities for them to proceed with bail.
His matter was then postponed to 13 June 2025 for further investigations.
