A 17-year-old learner from Hivuyeriwile Commercial School in Dzingidzingi village outside Giyane is scheduled to appear before Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Monday 28 February 2022, facing sexual assault and assault common charges which came about on Friday 25 February 2022.
The suspect allegedly assaulted a 15-year-old girl before the classes started.
Thereafter, the victim went to report the assault at the principal’s office where the matter was referred to the Disciplinary Committee.
The incident was reportedly dealt with and it was decided that the learner would be suspended from the school.
The suspect followed the victim back to the classroom where he allegedly continued to assault her and threaten to harm her, saying the 15-year-old girl should love him back or leave the school.
After the ordeal, the suspect jumped over the school fence and fled the scene when he saw the police entering the school premises.
The suspect was apprehended soon after a manhunt was launched. He was later released into the custody of his parents until he appears in court on Monday 28 February 2022.
He will be dealt with comparatively with the Child Justice Act.
