The Department of Home affairs contacted the parents of four learners who are repeating Grade 1 for the third time at Kinross Primary School because they do not have birth certificates.
One of the parents of the children tried several times to get the identity document, but was laways turned away for not having proper documents. According to the parent, she was born in a farm near Standerton and both parents died before they could get her identity document.
“I presented the proof to the school, but they do not want to accept it”, said the mother of the child. The intervention happened after Seskhona Newspaper contacted EFF Member of Parliament, Ms Hlengiwe Mkhaliphi. She is also a member of the Home Affairs Portfolio Committee. The Department of Education was also contacted. They did respond, but no further action was taken.
