In a month during which the country is celebrating women and mothers, sadly, a newly born baby was found dumped in the bushes next to a railway in Dullstroom yesterday afternoon, Sunday 21 August 2022 at about 17h00.
Police received an anonymous call regarding the said incident, when they arrived at the scene, it was confirmed that it was a baby found wrapped with a white baby blanket.
The officers urgently summoned the medical services who took the baby to the hospital and immediately began with the investigations ledding them to a 37-year-old woman alleged to be the mother of the baby boy.
The mother was arrested and charged accordingly.
The suspect is expected to appear at the Belfast Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Tuesday 23 August 2022 to be charged with child neglect.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has welcomed the arrest whilst in the same breath, condemning the mother’s actions.
