With the aim to encourage maximum participation of communities in tourism, increase community knowledge about tourism and its impact on the economy of Mpumalanga, a tourism awareness campaign was held on Tuesday, 12 September 2023 at Nomoya Masilela Museum in Bethal.
The purpose of the campaign was to increase the participation of rural communities and HDI (Human Development Index) owned enterprises in the tourism industry, which aims for the transformation of the sector.
Additionally, the campaign aimed to educate the participants about the significance and business opportunities that exist in the sector.
“This is a great opportunity to invest in because tourism is not only about traveling, it also includes a few sectors including farming,” said Mr Zola Gqawa, Assistant Manager of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture at GMM.
The one-day event encompassed presentations about planned tourism projects in Govan Mbeki Municipality, business support services of SMMEs, funding and market access opportunities.
The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency in collaboration with Govan Mbeki Municipality will highlight tourism safety issues, educate communities about being good hosts and encourage the youth to pursue careers in tourism and biodiversity.
