A 36-year-old Nigerian national was detained in Bethal yesterday, 08 February 2023 in Bethal.

He was found in position of a black plastic bag which contained 194 packs of suspected substance known to bw Nyaope, with the street value of R7 760.

Members received information of a person who was suspected to be in possession of illegal substances.

A team of police in Bethal followed the instructions and discovered the individual who fit the description supplied in the information.

According to reports, the man was carrying a black plastic bag, and when it was searched, brown sachets containing powder thought to be Nyaope were discovered.

He is scheduled to appear today Thursday, 09 February 2023 at Bethal Magistrate’s Court for possession of illegal drugs.

Additional investigation will be carried out to determine the authenticity of the substances, and the Police are collaborating with representatives from the Department of Home Affairs in an effort to determine the suspect’s position in South Africa.

Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, the provincial commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, has taken use of the occasion to warn alleged drug dealers and peddlers that the police will continue to gradually reduce their space as well as that of all other offenders.
