Sasol in partnership with Hydro-Arc has made a vow on Thursday, 18 August 2022 during their visit at Tholukwazi Primary School in Embalenhle to assist in the rehabilitation of the school.

Delegates of the two companies together with the deputy principals of the school and the community represented by the ward committee held a short brief meeting regarding the necessary needs of the school.

The delegates representing the school were; Mr. Victor Zolile Majola; and Mr. Peter Wellington Thela.

Mean while the external stakeholders were represented by:Mr. Gerrit Viljoen, Sasol SVP; Mr. Jose Maciel, Chairman of Hydro-Arc; Mr. Cobus Smith, GEC Safety at Hydro- Arc; and Mr. Jan Maswanganyi , CEO of Hydro-Arc.

“After our previous meeting a priority list was sent to us and the idea was that Sasol and Hydro-Arc form a partnership to assist in refurbishing the school.

On top of the list was the installation of the ceiling and the lights for the admin building but now we can see that you have completed that task and we are proud that you were able to achieve that as a school without the assistance of external stakeholders,” said Mr. Cobus Smith noticing some of the developments since their last visit to the school.

After the meeting the stakeholders inspected the identified areas on the priority list of the school which include the grade R classes comprising of three classroom with precast walls which were found to be adversely dangerous for the habitation of grade R learners, a soccer field which has not been maintained and needs leveling, netball courts and the pantry which had open electricity wirering and a leaking roof.

Following the inspection and considering the safety of the learners, a decision to demolish the pantry and the three grade R classrooms was unanimously reached.

The refurbishments will be done by the company and only be handed over to the school upon completion and no tender processes shall be followed in conducting since the two companies and their employees will be in full charge of such renovation.

On Tuesday, 23 August 2022 Hydro-Arc commenced with the renovations starting with the food storage room where they removed the roof of the entire storage and the electricity wirering system and replaced it with a new roof and installed a gycer for the supply of hot water.

Grade R Classrooms will be replaced by mobile classrooms and a jungly-gym.

The school appreciates the work being done by the stakeholders and will give credit by placing a signboard outside the school of the companies which assisted.
