LSEN schools from all over Mpumalanga  met at Embalenhle Sasol Club on Friday, 20 May 2022 for the Sasols Sports Day for People with Disability.

This is an annual event which is part of the Sasol Social Responsibilty Programme.

The programme caters for two categories of people with disability: children with disabilities from special schools and adults living with disability.

The participants  took part  in different sporting codes being soccer, netball, baketball, goal ball, Futsal, Table tennis and other indigenous games.

Medals and trophies were awarded to the winning teams.

The main purpose of the programme is to discover talent and encourage learners and community members with disabilities to participate in competitive sports.

“When I look at myself I do not see myself as disabled because I can do things which any other person can do.

I only see my disability as some of the impefections which makes me unique and special,” said one of the learners living with disabilites and participated in netball.

MMC for Finance at Gert Sibande District Municipality Mr Bethuel Zuguza said, “This great initiative will help some of the people with disabilities to unleash their full potential because we want them to be active role players within our government and communities.

“Some of you here should aim for the paralympics and not winning today does not mean that you lost, it simply means that you have an opportunity to try again,” Zuguza concludes.
