Ryan Mthembu, a 23 years old born and raised in eMbalenhle is currently an excelling student at Nkangangala TVET College, Emalahleni Campus and has obtained five (5) distinctions out of the 7 (seven) modules he had registered.
Mthembu enrolled for Hospitality last year because he felt the need to compromise and get formal education in the hospitality field.
According to Mthembu, he worked at Graceland for quite some time, however when COVID hit and some industries had closed down, people stood at a risk of loosing their jobs.
Therefore, that is when Mthembu realized his dream and passion for education because he could not waste away the time he had while not going to work.
He registered with Nkangala TVET College and at that time, his family relied on his UIF funds, for a few months and he was also able to stretch the money to finance his registration before NSFAS was approved for his tuition funding.
“Now studying has become easier because NSFAS covers my groceries, study material, stationary and necessities needed for my practicals at the college.
For those who wish to pursue their dreams through education, NSFAS bursary is the way, one thing that kept me going too was getting a part time job during my studies as I would not only rely on the bursary since sometimes payments
were paid late” said Mr Mthembu.
Mthembu enjoys baking the most in hospitality, of which one day he would like to own a baking company that will supply cakes for different occasions.
Currently he does not cater for events as he wants to finish his studies and be perfect at it.
Nkangala TVET College has honored Mthembu for his hard works by awarding him with certificates, medals, a trophy and a Laptop.
Mthembu hopes that this year would even be better and he aims at acing all his modules with distinctions.
