A 38-year-old man, Mlamuli Siyaya, appeared before the Evander Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 20 July 2026, on charges of murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.
Siyaya is accused of murdering his girlfriend during a domestic incident that allegedly took place at their residence in May 2026.
According to information available to police, Siyaya allegedly held his girlfriend and her alleged lover hostage before opening fire and fatally shot his girlfriend. She was declared deceased at the scene.
Police reportedly responded to the incident and, while attempting to defuse the situation, allegedly shot the woman’s alleged lover as officers entered the room. He was also declared deceased at the scene.
It was further alleged that Siyaya then turned the firearm on himself and sustained serious gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital and was admitted for treatment.
Following his recent discharge from hospital, Siyaya made his first court appearance. He is currently paralysed and uses a wheelchair as a result of the injuries he sustained.
The case has been postponed to 22 July 2026 to allow for a Legal Aid application and a possible bail application. He remains in custody pending his next court appearance.
