Two suspects were remanded in custody after their first appearance before the Evander Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 11 March 2024 with allegations of house robbery over the past three (3) weeks in Ward 29 and other areas in eMbalenhle. 

The two suspects were arrested after Cllr Vusi Mbokozi had a meeting with the residents of Ward 29 as everyone was troubled about the numbe of house robbery cases. 

In one incident, the complaint stated that on Friday, 01 March 2024 at about 22h00, she went to bed and everything was in order, the door and windows were closed. 

Two hours later, the victim heard her tenants scream, and after some time, she heard someone kicking the door open. 

Two unknown males wearing balaclavas were standing outside in possession of pangas and demanded cellphones from the victim. 

They forcefully entered inside and searched all the bedrooms, demanding everyone in the house to join the complaint in her bedroom. 

They further threatened to cut her grandchild’s fingers if she did not give them her bank cards. 

The suspects went outside as a car was waiting for them, and drove off.  

In another incident, the complainant was inside his house when he heard someone kick the door open, carrying a knife, and forcefully took his two cellphones, one television, and clothes and left the place. 

The case was postponed to Monday, 18 March 2024 meanwhile, one suspect is still at large.
