The police at Calcutta request members of the public to help in finding a woman who dumped a newborn baby boy inside a pit toilet on Sunday morning, 15 October 2023 around 10h40 at a certain church in Ronaldsey Trust, Ximhungwe, near Bushbuckridge. 

According to information at police disposal, members of the public heard the cry of a baby inside a pit toilet. 

Authorities were informed about the incident, they then dug behind the pit toilet, and managed to rescue the baby whose umbilical cord was still attached to him. 

The baby was then taken to the hospital for treatment while police opened a case of child neglect. 

The police are currently investigating the whereabouts of the child’s mother, and no one has been arrested so far.

All received information will be treated as confidential, and callers may opt to remain anonymous. 

The incident has been strongly condemned by the management of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, and members of the public are urged to make use of services from social workers, Faith-Based-Organizations and other structures in the community rather than to take bad decisions.
