Smilo Crystal Mdluli is a young aspiring artist from Bethal age 19. She is also the founder of Crystal Music Records, a song writer, vocalist and a poet.
The 19-year-old has been nominated for the Mpumalanga music awards for best trending song.
Smilo has found a way to link the R&B and Amapiano genres into one. She describes herself as a loving and active person by nature hence she combined the two genres.
However, she said she is not subjected to any specific genre as she might feel like kwaito any day which she feels it is ok.
Besides music Smilo writes Poems, community engagements, sports, and also runs an ice-cream business that is functional effectively.
Currently organising her first project called the Crystal Marathon in Bethal, she said by doing so she is giving back to the community and motivating people to live a healthy and active lifestyle.
“Generally I love the feeling music gives me, however feelings differ depending on the genre.
Personally I feel like every note and instrument has an impact on the listener’s emotions for instance R&B gives the feeling of love and warmth whilst AmaPiano gives an active feeling of dance and fun.
Despite the fact that I realised my talent for music in church, I naturally come from a musical family, my mom can sing and my dad was a DJ. However they did not want to pursue music as a career.
I joined the church choir at the age of 16 and I guess it’s safe to say that the church was my first audience,” said Smilo with passion.
Smilo’s inspiration comes from the books she reads which she said are helpful in terms of being creative, also the stories she hears from people about their relationship experiences though she regards herself as having a dull love life which she said it is close to non-existent however the people in her circle such as friends or family members also inspire her writing and also plays a role in her formulation of songs.
Smilo Crystal’s dream is to be signed by one of the biggest record labels in the world.
She wishes to duet with Lloyiso Gijana who is a soul singer who is signed by one of the worlds biggest record label.
