19-year-old Sibusiso Mkhonza made a brief appearance before the Evander Magistrates ‘ Court on Thursday, 04 June 2026, facing a charge of attempted murder.

The teenager was arrested on Tuesday after stabbing a fellow learner at school during break time.

Preliminary investigations suggested that he approached the victim inside the school premises and stabbed him multiple times before fleeing the scene.

The Embalenhle police arrested him later that same day.

According to the father of the victim, his son is currently in a critical state in the hospital. He also told Seskhona News that he hopes the court will find justice for his family.

During the accused’s appearance, the court inquired about his mental health state, after his matter was adjourned due to him not making sense of the court’s questioning.

Mkhonza’s father informed the court that his son is not mentally stable, he has episodes, and he was on medication; however, he stopped when they thought he was ok.

The matter was rolled over to 05 June 2026 for legal representation so that the accused is referred for mental evaluation, and the accused is remanded in custody
