On Saturday, 18 February 2023, hundreds of runners will participate in the Sasol Secunda Marathon, hosted by the Sasol Secunda Marathon Club, one of the important races in the country’s athletics calendar.
The event is a popular qualifier for the Comrades Marathon and the Two Oceans and attracts elite runners from across the country.
Runners will take part in the full 42.2 KM marathon race, 21.1 KM and 10 KM distances, and a 4.9 KM Fun Run, making it a fun-filled activity for participants of varying fitness levels. The race plays a critical role in promoting a culture of physical wellness through sport and recreational activities.
Medals will be issued to all finishers, and late entries are open until 17 February.
“The race continues to draw the interest of runners from across the country as one of the best comrades and two oceans qualifier,” said Abednego Sibanyoni, the Marketing Officer for the Sasol Secunda Marathon Club.
Sasol has been a critical supporter of the race since its inception in 1980.
The marathon was in 2022 won by Charles Soza of the Nedbank Athletics Club, finishing at 02:24:43. The first female to cross the line was Eunice Nhlapho of Eskom Athletics Club, who clocked 03:03:04.
The race will start and finish at Sasol Recreation Club –Secunda at the following times:
