Mthokozisi dladla (23), Godfrey Manana (26) and Prince Motaung (29) appeared before the Evander Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 25 February 2025 on charges of assault and attempted murder.
It is alleged that the three suspects are part of a gang of pangas known as amaporokosia that terrorizes the community of Embalenhle.
One of the accused was shot at by the police while he was allegedly trying to evade arrest.
He was later arrested at a private doctor after the police received a tip on his whereabouts.
The investigation officer, Constable Ramutla, on the witness stand opposed their bail and stated that the person they assaulted would not be safe and that the group was violent such that some of the group members who are outside threatened the victim who has now relocated from eMbalenhle fearing for his safety.
Furthermore, the investigation officer told the court that accused number one pointed a firearm at the police. The matter has been postponed for a further bail hearing.
