Thistle Groove Friends of the Library hosted a spelling bee competition for primary schools on Thursday, 26 October 2023 at Sasol Recreation Club in Kinross.
This was the fourth annual competition hosted.
Thirteen (13) schools, including those from Govan Mbeki Municipality, Standerton, and one from the North West Province, honored the invitation to take part in the competition.
The schools are, namely, Sasolia primary school, Osizweni combined school, Lamlile primary school, Sizenzele primary school, E.P. Lukhela primary, Thistle Groove combined school, Emdibini primary school, Kinross primary school, Stanwest combined school, D.P. Kgotleng primary school, Sidingulwazi primary school, Nyandeni primary school, and Langelihle primary school.
Banele Zulu from Kinross primary school scooped first place during the individual participation round.
“I am very excited about winning the individual round.
It took a lot of rehearsals at school with the help of my teachers and friends.
I am very grateful for all the help I received, as this will put my school on the map,” Banele Zulu said, thanking the help she received from teachers and friends.
Ms. Phumlile Ndlovu said they are very grateful for the opportunity to take part in the competition.
She elaborated that the school is poor with learning resources and that their children still need a lot of help in ensuring they receive a better education.
Lamlile Primary School from Bethal topped all the schools during group participation, as they won top performed school award.
The team showed confidence throughout the competition.
Mrs. Priscilla Naidoo, who organized the event, said she was very grateful to all the sponsors of the event, which made it a success.
