Samantha Gaunche (35) was remanded in custody by the Delmas District Court on Monday, 02 October 2023 for a formal bail application which was postponed to Monday, 09 October 2023 after her appearance for allegedly running over her husband, Jansen Van Rensburg (50) with a vehicle.
According to information, Gaunche and Van Rensburg were at a friend’s place at Plot 72 Modder East Orchards Ellon in Sundra.
It is alleged that the suspect wanted to leave and the deceased prohibited her.
It is further alleged that the deceased denied Gaunche the opportunity to drive and stood behind the vehicle.
Gaunche allegedly drove over Van Rensburg several times with the vehicle.
After the ordeal, she eventually drove off leaving her husband in pain.
Emergency personnel were summoned to the scene where Van Rensburg was declared dead.
On arrival, Gaunche had already left the scene.
She drove for about a kilometre when she allegedly lost control, bumped into a tree and landed on a farm.
She allegedly alighted from the vehicle and ran towards the bridge.
The farm workers apprehended her and took her back to her vehicle.
Police were notified and she was arrested for murder.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, welcomed the arrest of the suspect and called on people who were facing domestic related violence to seek help.
