Three families from Emzinoni are mourning the tragic loss of their loved ones, Sthembiso Mtsweni, Makhosonke Hadebe, and Abraham Mlobela, who passed away last week while reportedly working on a farm near Bethal.

According to relatives, the three men left home on the morning of Wednesday, 24 September 2025, in search of employment.

Family members were later informed that they had been offered work on a farm, where they were allegedly tasked with demolishing a building.

Details of what transpired remain unclear. The families say they were told that when the employer returned to the site later that day, he could not find the workers.

It is further alleged that attempts to call one of the men led to a phone ringing from underneath rubble.

Emergency services were called, and the men were declared deceased at the scene.

The families stated that they were not formally notified of the incident and only learned about it when personal belongings of one of the deceased were brought home the following day.

On Monday, 29 September, relatives requested that police accompany them to the site, which was eventually granted.

Loved ones now face the financial and emotional burden of arranging funerals, for which they would appreciate any help from good Samaritans.

The family of Abraham Mlobela has appealed for assistance to transport his body to Bushbuckridge for burial.

Speaking on behalf of the Hadebe family, Ms. Cynthia Mankazana expressed concern about how communication with the farm representatives has been handled.

When contacted by Seskhona Media, the farm owner declined to comment on the circumstances of the incident, citing an ongoing investigation. He stated that he is open to assisting the families with funeral costs once they provide details of what is required.

At the time of publishing the story, the families said they had tried to contact the farm owner, but their calls were just ringing unanswered

Police investigations into the matter are continuing.
