The unidentified body of a man who is in an advanced stage of decomposition has been at the Bethal government mortuary.

On Monday 17 March 2025, police in Bethal received and attended to a motor vehicle accident that claimed a life of a man after he was hit by a motor vehicle on the N17 road between Bethal and Davel.

On the day of the accident, a lifeless body in bottle green overall, black t-shirt with white prints, light grey vest, black pants, light grey socks and a brown leather ankle boot on the right foot was found at the scene by police where all role players including emergency medical services and forensic Pathology were summoned to attend hence he was declared deceased. The body was collected and transported to Bethal government mutuary by Sipho Sibande, the forensic officer. 

The investigating officer worked collaboratively with the Department of Home Affairs to determine if the deceased information was registered with the Department by obtaining fingerprints but according to the report from Department of Home Affairs, no personal details were found. 

Police in Bethal seek assistance from anyone who might have information of the family of the deceased or lost a family member or friend in identifying the body.
