In closing woman’s month, women from Charles Cilliers Ward 10 hosted a women’s serminar on Friday, August 23 August 2024.
The purpose of the gathering was to celebrate, commemorate, and honor the women of 1950 who marched to the union buildings in Pretoria to protest against the apartheid-era pass laws that were used to racialize and segregate the population.
The courage and resilience of the woman who stood against injustice symbolized the broader struggle for gender equality and human rights in South Africa.
Further, the gathering aimed at encouraging women to stand up and take charge in various departments.
Women from different departments, including policing, health, DSD, ministry, justice, and women in politics, were invited as speakers at the gathering.
As young women and young brides, we want to learn from these women as they have more experience. As young woman growing up we need to gather with older women as it helps us grow with direction, said Mrs. Zuma, encouraging women at the event to take note of what the speakers were presenting.
Ms. Precious Soko, a social worker from the department of social development, led a presentation on gender-based violence.
Love yourself enough to walk away from pain because that pain doesn’t just hurt you alone but even the children you stay with. Let us change the way we do things; let us not groom young women with the midset of marriage but push them towards education, said Ms. Soko, urging woman to understand their own worth.
The women vowed to have a structure that would help in the ward.
