Sasol handed over its annual funding to the communities of Gert Sibande District Municipality.
The funding is intended to support two Civil Society Organisations and the Department of Health’s Community Health Care & Support Programme in the GSD region, a partnership initiative between Sasol Secunda and the Mpumalanga Government.
The Community Health Care & Support Programme was initiated to support the Department of Health in rendering improved healthcare services to communities.
The aim of the programme is to implement Anti Retro-Viral treatment adherence clubs as a long term retention strategy for clinically stable patients receiving Antiretroviral Therapy in the GMM area.
Sasol funded PSASA (Project Support Association of Southern Africa) with R3 million to implement the programme.
Funding for civil society organisations is intended to financially empower Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) to deliver on their mandate and render quality social development and welfare services.

This year the Leandra Community Centre received funding of R350 000 towards implementation of a comprehensive education and awareness programme on HIV/AIDS, TB and Non-Communicable Diseases.
CANSA (Cancer Association of South Africa) was funded R350 000 towards creating Cancer Awareness and providing a platform for communities and leaders to initiate support groups for patients and cancer survivors.
“In the past 12 years, Sasol has made annual donations available to 43 NPOs and Community Based organisations” said Mashudu Ndou, Senior Manager Sasol Social Investment and Ikusasa.
“As a responsible corporate citizen, we are committed to contributing meaningfully to sustainable development of communities around our operations.
We believe that the funding will assist organisations and the government departments in carrying out their objectives in the communities we serve.”
