Members of NEHAWU (National Education, Health, and Allied Workers’ Union) are currently picketing outside GS Evander College campus.
Currently, the strike is disturbing leaning proceedings, trimester internal examinations which were set to commerce this Monday, 06 March 2022.
Mduduzi Mazibuko the regional chairperson of NEHAWU stated that national education, health and allied worker’s are all striking Nationally for salary increase as last year the government imposed a 3% increase instead of 10% but they didn’t fulfil their promise.
“As the employees, we decided to picket peacefully at the college gate so that our voices can be heard. The government tried to interdict the strike last week with a warning which we appealed to show how serious we are. Hence, we are here today,” said Mduduzi Mazibuko.
Njabulo Mngoma regional secretary of SASCO explained how the strike is affecting the students.
Mngoma further stated that students were prepared to start with their internal and supplementary examinations and as such will be affected mentally.
According to Mngoma, students of GS College will be addressed on when they will continue with their examination, although it is going to affect the academic year schedule.
