Konica Minolta Highveld together with Food & Trees for Africa donated 52 trees at Basizeni Special School in Embalenhle on Tuesday, 16 April.

The main purpose behind this event was to teach the learners about the importance of keeping our country green.  Konica Minolta and Food & Tress for Africa have joined forces to plant more trees.

A total of 45 198 have been donated throughout the country through this partnership.

Govan Mbeki Municipality Area will receive 1 490 trees.

Morne Pretorius from Konica Minolta Highveld explained to the pupils the importance of having plants around and urged them to always take good care of their plants.

Jeminah Mkhize a facilitator at Food & Trees for Africa, did a plant demonstration, taking the pupils step by step on how to correctly plant a tree.

The learners were later asked questions and given prizes for their participation.

Basizeni Special School principal, Mrs Rampai said she is very thankful to both companies involved because the initiative will encourage more learners at the school to be involved in the garden and by doing so they will be the ones who benefit the most because the school will not buy vegetables or fruits but they will get them from their own garden.
