On Friday, 27 January, Sasol will host the Grade 12 Merit Awards to honour the Matric Class of 2022 top achievers from schools based in the Chief Albert Luthuli, Lekwa, Dipaleseng and Govan Mbeki Municipalities.
The ceremony will take place at the Sasol Secunda Recreation Club.
The Grade 12 Merit Awards are a Sasol initiative aimed at celebrating top-performing learners in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), encouraging them to pursue careers in this field.
This year marks 28 years since the inception of the Sasol Grade 12 Merit awards.
At this event, Sasol will award top achievers who obtained distinctions in Mathematics, Accounting, Computer Application Technology, Languages, Information Technology, Engineering, Physical Science, Life Science, Geography, Business Studies, Economics, Agriculture, Technology, Technical Science, Technical Mathematics, and Graphic and Design.
Those learners that excelled in STEM subjects will each receive R10 000.
The cash prize will contribute towards the learner’s tuition fees at institutions of higher learning of their choice.
Sasol will also hand out two full bursaries to the two best achievers and recognise the best educators in Mathematics, Physical Science, Technical Mathematics and Technical Science from different quintiles.
In attendance among the teachers and learners will be senior officials from the provincial Department of Education and other stakeholders.
