Police in Tweefontein arrested a suspect for hijacking a bakery. The incident was said to have happed on Saturday, 24 May 2025 at about 05:40am.
As per the police statement, the bakery driver was delivering bread to a certain general dealer.
He went out of the truck to offload the bread and was approached by two men who were hiding behind the truck, and as he tried to step back, they ordered him to get inside the truck, was locked inside with bread.
The suspects drove around a few shops selling and delivering bread.
The truck came to a standstill at the main road Gemsbokspruit next to a crèche, and one of the suspects opened for the driver and ordered him to get out.
Both suspects alighted from the truck with an amount of R470 from the driver, his cellphone, and the driver’s license.
They fled the scene, but with the help of the community, one of the suspects was arrested, and the truck was recovered.
The arrested suspect is expected to appear at KwaMhlanga Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 26 May 2025.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga,Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has thank the community for assisting the police in fighting crime and not take law in their own hands.
