Two suspects were arrest last night, Tuesday 18 October 2022 at around 23h00 for the transportation of drugs worth R700 000 in Standerton.

According to statement issued by the SAPS Office of the Provincial Commissioner in Mpumalanga, police reacted on a tip-off from a community member and immediately responded.

Standerton K-9 Unit headed to R23 road where they were backed up by local security company.

According to Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, Spokesperson of the Office of the Provincial Commissioner,  a white VW Polo Vivo which matched the description of the suspicious vehicle was spotted and police stopped it.

“The said vehicle only had two occupants, a 36 year old man, Nigerian national and a 30 year old lady, a South African national.

Thereafter, police requested to search the vehicle where luggage containing substances believed to be narcotics were found,” said Bregadier Mohlala.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the recovered substances were five small lumps of unpacked crystal meth weighing 491g, one medium lump of unpacked crystal meth weighing 439g and four lumps of unpacked cat weighing 506g.

The duo were immediately arrested and charged for dealing in drugs.

The drugs and the vehicle were confiscated for further investigation.

The suspects are expected to appear in Standerton Magistrate’s Court today, Wednesday 19 October 2022 on charges of dealing in drugs.

Police cannot rule out the possibilities of adding more charges, including contravening of the Immigration Act on the foreign national.
