One of the buildings at the Ebhaceni hostels next to Tshalanag flats in Ext 8, eMbalenhle was destroyed after it caught fire on Monday, 28 October 2022 afternoon at about 14h30.
It is alleged that the fire just broke from one of the rooms which was locked and the occupants were nowhere to be found.
Residents from the building jumped out from the windows with some of their belongings, trying to save their lives.
Some residents from the building stated that they are hurt about the incident, they do not know where and how they going to sleep tonight.
“The councilors and community at large do not care about us and some community members opposite the hostel might be standing with us here rejoicing that the building is on fire,” said one of the resident from the hostel.
The Goven Mbeki fire rescue service and a security service from Evander responded to the incident and tried to extinguish the fire.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and no injuries were reported.
