Steven Pandla (20) and Thandolwethu Sithole (20) Katlego Mosehla (19) and Sibusiso Hlatjwayo (19) were denied bail on Monday, 18 August 2025, by the Evander Magistrates Court after appearing for judgement for their bail, while Mpendulo Nkosi (20), the fifth accused, was granted bail of R500.00.

During bail judgement, the court found that the accused did not prove that it is in the interests of justice that they be released on bail.

Their judgement comes after they were arrested for robbing the Paulina Morapeli CHC in the Govan Mbeki Local Municipality at eMbalenhle on the night of 1 August 2025.

They are facing a charge of robbery with aggravating circumstances.

According to information, a group of men pretended to seek help at the clinic for a terminally ill friend. A security guard provided them with a wheelchair, which they used to push the so-called patient into the facility.

Once inside, the group pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the nurses. Fortunately, the nurses were able to escape and run to safety.

The robbers then fled with only the wheelchair and the security guard’s uniform, which they forcibly removed.

The four have been remanded in custody, and their matter was postponed to 15 September 2025.
