For 15-year-old Simphiwe Ceprial Tshabalala, what began as a passion for dancing has quickly turned into an extraordinary journey that could take him from the streets of eMbalenhle to Disneyland in the United States of America.

Born and raised in eMbalenhle, under the Govan Mbeki Municipality, Simphiwe is a Grade 8 learner at Evander High School and a dancer at Visionary Dance School, where he trains under the guidance of his coach, Ms Delight.

He is a member of the Boom Squad Senior Group and also competes as an Amapiano soloist.

Remarkably, Simphiwe only officially entered competitive dancing in early 2026, but within months, his talent and dedication have earned him the opportunity to represent South Africa internationally.

“I started in 2024 with local dancers around my hood, but it failed. I stayed until my coach introduced me to Visionary Dance School. That is when my competitive journey officially started,” he recalls.

His first year of competitive dancing has already produced an achievement many young dancers can only dream of — qualifying to represent his country on an international stage.

“I felt very excited and proud. It still feels unreal. This is my first year competing and now I’m going to represent South Africa in Disneyland, USA,” said Simphiwe.

He believes his achievement is proof that dedication and perseverance can open doors.

“It shows that hard work really pays off. I’m grateful to God, my coach, my family, and everyone who believed in me.”

For Simphiwe, dancing is about far more than competitions and trophies. It is a form of self-expression and a source of confidence and purpose.

“Dancing chose me. When I dance, I feel free, and I can express myself without speaking. It gives me joy, confidence, and purpose. It keeps me focused and away from the wrong things,” he said.

The young dancer describes himself as disciplined, passionate, humble, and hardworking, qualities he believes have played an important role in his rapid progress.

Despite being only 15, Simphiwe already has a clear picture of where he wants his talent to take him.

In the next five to 10 years, he hopes to become an international professional dancer and choreographer, travel the world, teach other young people from Kasi communities, and put both South Africa and eMbalenhle on the international map.

He also hopes his journey will inspire other young people in Govan Mbeki Municipality to believe in their own potential.

“Where you come from does not determine where you can go. We are from eMbalenhle, but our talent can take us to the world,” he said.

“Don’t be afraid to start, stay disciplined, show respect, and believe in yourself. If I can do it in one year, you can too.”

As Simphiwe prepares for what could be the trip of a lifetime which be held for a period of 4 days, from the 24 – 29 June 2027, his community is rallying behind him to help turn his international dream into reality.
