Govan Mbeki Older Persons Forum in partnership with Sasol hosted a beauty contest to celebrate International Day of Older Persons.
Women participated in three categories which is beauty contest wearing cultural outfits, modelling and general dancing.
Kinross Golden Oldies and Govan Mbeki Forum Chairperson, Ms Ethel Makhele said every year they celebrate the International Day of Older Persons in October and it is their 12th year of celebrating it.
Sasol assisted with catering and also donated the venue.
“We have 11 centres within Govan Mbeki Municipality, in Embalenhle, Kinross, Bethal, Leandra and Charl Cilliers,” said Ms Makhele.
All the participants won the trophies. Ms Makhele thanked all the sponsors for the event.
Mr. Leemisa Tsosane from Siyanqoba Group said they celebrated the day on Tuesday, 5 November because during the month of October they were busy with the golden games.
Sisanda Nkwintya from Social Development added that the day was celebrated differently and it went well.
Desile Mokoena from Department of sport, Culture and Recreation said she wishes for all the older persons of Govan Mbeki Municipality to be part of the celebrations next time.
