Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) held their district council meeting in Kinross, Pat Njokwana Hall.
The meeting which was hosted by the Kinross branch led by Cllr Dan Nhlapo was attended by the District Executive Mayor, Cllr Muzi Chirwa, the district mayoral committee, local municipalities executive mayors, councillors, Amakhosi and members of the public.
The Govan Mbeki Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr Flora Maboa- Boltman welcomed all guests.
She said after the municipalities had a difficult year, faced by challenges which included, Eskom debts, protests and arson, they are happy for the district executive mayor who saw it fit to give them gifts for christmas.
During the deliberations, the DA Cllr Kubheka mentioned that they were touched by the passing of a 14-year-old during a protest in Sakhile because of the service delivery challenges.
He commended the staff under the leadership of Cllr Habile for their hard work.
The DA also mentioned that Gert Sibande Municipality is doing well, but more still needs to be done within the local municiplities.
The EFF Cllr Lucia Karim said the arrival of EFF brought change within the government.
She further mentioned that their presence helped to reduce the level of corruption which was taking place to benefit families, friends, boyfriends and girlfriends.
ANC Chief Whip, Cllr SGT Nkosi said the people are obssessed by the ANC and they should know that their doors are always open to welcome them back.
He also shared how the projects led by the ruling party benefitted the community.
He concluded by reminding everyone in the house not to drink and drive during the festive seasons.
The district executive mayor, Cllr Muzi Chirwa awarded the local municipalities and councilors for their hard work.
He started by presenting the awards which the district received from SALGA.
Govan Mbeki Municipality received three awards, 1st position on the Best Customer Service Municipality, 1st place on Best Financial Viability Municipality and 1st place on Best Cleanest Town.
Dr Pixley Ka-Seme received 2nd place on the Best Customer Service Municipality.
Lekwa received 2nd place on Best Financial Viability Municipality.
Msukaligwa got 2nd position on the Best Cleanest Town.
