Bethuel Zunguza, the regional leader of the ANC youth league, who is the MMC of finance in the Gert Sibande district, and Bonginkosi Shiba, who is the regional youth league coordinator, have taken an initiative to help transport the homeless people staying in and around Secunda CBD streets back to their homes so that they can also spend Christmas with their families.

The leaders committed themselves to paying all costs for transportation.

The initiative is also aimed at helping those who are on the streets because of substance abuse.

The leaders took to the streets on Wednesday evening, December 13 December at about 19h45 which they said it’s the only convenient time to get through all the homeless people as most of them are headed to their sleeping corners.

A list was therefore compiled wherein they will be taking substance abusers to their families so that they can reconcile with them before going to a rehabilitation center.

“It is very important to spend time with families during the holiday season.

We understand that most of you came to hustle and look for greener pastures, but things did not go well, so you found yourself in the streets.

We are proud of you for soldiering on, we want to see you off the streets,” said Zunguza.

The leaders also committed themselves to helping the homeless further regarding procuring skills and employment in the coming year.

One young man who is an addict said he was very grateful for the problem as it would help reunite him with his grandmother since he left home under unpleasant circumstances.
