The Evander Magistrate court has today, 17 June 2025, released 38-year-old Jonathan Ilungwa Kilimba, a Congolese national who was arrested last Wednesday in eMbalenhle for allegedly posing as a medical doctor. He was arrested after a compliance inspection conducted by a Health Inspector at a local medical practice.

The state did not oppose his release on bail, on condition that he does not practice medicine.

According to information at police disposal, a Health Inspector visited a surgery operating under the name of a registered medical doctor, located at Extension 07, Embalenhle. Upon arrival, the inspector observed a patient exiting the consultation room. He then entered the room and found an adult male conducting medical consultations, who identified himself as Jonathan Ilungwa Kilimba.

When questioned, Kilimba produced five patient files, including one belonging to the patient who had just been seen. During the inspection, the suspect admitted that he was working under the practice owner, a registered medical doctor, and further confessed that he is not registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

He was then released on free bail, and his matter was postponed to 17 July 2025 for legal representation.
