In celebration of Youth Day, the Sekwanele Youth Empowerment hosted a killings and child abduction awareness march on Sunday, 16 June 2024, in eMbalenhle.

The purpose of the march was to create awareness of the hiking crimes in eMbalenhle and mostly to allow residents to take action and voice out their sentiments.

“We expect a quick response from the SAPS since we’ve handed over our memorandum.

We are also hoping that awareness has spread to every part of eMbalenhle and that this crime curve will be flattened,” said Thulani Mtsweni, founder and chairperson of Sekwanele Youth Empowerment NPO.

The residents of eMbalenhle, mostly youth, marched from 911 Lifestyle Carwash to the police station, singing and voicing out their sentiments.

The residents delivered a memorandum of demands, including taking Thingo Mahlangu’s case seriously, increasing police patrols in all areas, and more.

Mr Mtsweni also vowed to go back to the police station after seven (7) days for answers from the station commander, Colonel Sibanyani.
