Kinross Police Station hosted a sports against crime for local schools on Friday, 06 June 2025.

According to Constable Gcinile Mondlane, they saw a challenge with primary school learners within the Kinross vicinity.

Some have started using drugs and are more often spotted at corners of tuck shops in the area, which made them come up with the implementation of sports activities.

These sports activities are part of their crime prevention strategy as they keep them busy in a way that reduces the chances of committing criminal activities.

“Through this initiative, some might end up being professionals in their chosen sporting codes,” said Mondlane, communications spokesperson of Kinross Police Station

The event was deemed successful because the Department of Culture, Sports and Recreation offered to assist with the introduction of other sporting codes, for example, indigenous games.

Correctional Services also offered to assist with juvenile offenders when conducting a crime awareness campaign related to the youngsters.

Winners and second runners-up were awarded prizes as a token of appreciation and encouragement to do more.

The led Stakeholders also agreed on having a plenary meeting on how to do more educational crime awareness campaigns.
