Police in Kabokweni are investigating a case of murder with an additional charge of rape and inquest after the discovery of two bodies, one of a female identified as Sinenhlahla Nkosi (16) and a male identified as Dumiso Mhlongo (25).
They were each identified by their respective families.
The bodies were sadly discovered inside an old building (Khumbula old social club) at Kabokweni during the evening of Monday, 27 March 2023 around 18h00.
Reports indicate that after the two, who are considered to be distant relatives, were last seen on Saturday, 25 March 2023, their whereabouts became a mystery. Nkosi’s aunt left them earlier that day to go to a funeral. When she got home and discovered her niece wasn’t there, she started to get worried.
She then looked for her but without any success and she reported the matter to the police the next day, Sunday 26 March 2023. The male partner of the aunt is said to be related to Mhlongo and he too left for work earlier that Saturday but was amazed when he got home to learn about the disappearance of the two.
Shockingly, on that dreadful Monday (27 March 2023), the aunt was informed by some members of the community about two bodies that were discovered in the said building.
She went there only to get a shock of her life as the two lifeless bodies, including that of her niece, were found hanging.
Police as well as the paramedics were eventually notified about the incident. Upon arrival, the two young stars were unfortunately certified dead by the medical personnel at the scene. Police opened a case with a charge of murder, rape and an inquest after discovering a fowl play on the female victim’s body.
The matter is still under investigation and a team of investigators has been assembled to probe this horrific incident. Preliminary investigation has since revealed that Mhlongo had visited his relatives at Kabokweni.
It is said that he was seeking for employment opportunities, but the police are working around the clock, using all resources available at their disposal to establish circumstances surrounding this terrible incident.
